Your Guide to Spring Fishing in Leitchfield

There’s something special about the quiet of a spring morning by the water. In Leitchfield, we are lucky to have a local gem that’s perfect for exactly that: James D. Beville Park Lake.

Whether you’re an experienced angler or someone looking to pick up a fishing pole for the first time, now is the perfect time to head to the park. The lake has been recently stocked and is teeming with life.

Beville Lake is home to a variety of fish waiting for your bait, including:

  • Catfish
  • Rainbow Trout
  • Bluegill

About the FINs Program

Our lake is a proud participant in the Fishing in the Neighborhoods (FINs) program, which helps bring quality fishing opportunities close to home. To keep the lake healthy and enjoyable for everyone, please keep these rules in mind:

  • Licenses: If you are 16 or older, you must have a Kentucky Fishing License.
  • Trout Permits: If you plan to keep any rainbow trout, a trout permit is required in addition to your state license. (Note: Resident seniors 65+ with a Senior License do not need a separate trout permit).
  • Bank Fishing Only: To protect the 3.8-acre lake, fishing is limited to the banks during daylight hours—no boating is allowed.
  • Bait Restrictions: The use of live shad for bait is prohibited at all FINs lakes.
