Remembering Former Mayor Thomason

A statement regarding the passing of Former Leitchfield Mayor William “Turkey” Thomason.

Having known Bill most of my life, I can honestly say that this community has lost its best friend. I’ve watched Mayor Thomason do things for this community and its people that most will never know.

Countless times I have seen him help those in need, and never once have I seen him ask for anything in return.

On a personal level, I have always looked at Mayor Thomason as a mentor. He spent many years guiding me down the ever-winding road of local government, and I can honestly say, if not for his love and encouragement, I’m certain I would not have made it this far.

Roman’s 12:10 says ”Be devoted to one another in love: Honor one another above yourself.”

Mayor William Thomason truly exemplified a man who honored others around him more than he honored himself.

Mayor Harold Miller

City of Leitchfield

On Friday, March 13, Leitchfield Mayor Harold Miller issued an executive order for flags to be flown at half-staff at all city-owned buildings, grounds, and facilities, starting immediately. This gesture honors and pays respect to former Mayor Thomason for his dedicated service to our city.

The flags will remain at half-staff until sunset on Tuesday, March 17th.

This executive order applies specifically to all city-owned properties. It’s crucial to follow proper flag etiquette and maintain respect throughout this period.

If your business or personal property is not city-owned, this order does not mandate you to lower your flag. However, since Former Mayor Thomason was also a veteran, you may choose to honor him and his service by lowering your flag to half-staff on Tuesday, March 17th, from sunrise to sunset.
